Creative writing

Today we are back to school after a long weekend with daddy.

The first thing the kids wanted to do was creative writing. This week we are working on Similes and how to use them to make our writing more interesting. Cyan is GREAT at this part of writing. She has a huge vocabulary and has a knack for using words correctly. She wrote this (with prompting):

Blue
By Cyan

Blue tastes like licking strawberry lip gloss off your lips.
Blue sounds like the tinkling of bells.
Blue feels wet like the rain and cold like icy snow on your face.
Blue smells like the soft wind.

Alex is just as talented, although all of his creativity tends to be to the darker side of life... so the next assignment was a little bit more his style (although he did say that blue smells clean like cholorine. I thought that was pretty good.)

Angry
By Alex

Anger tastes like dirt, crunching in your mouth.
Anger sounds like a cat's hiss.
Anger smells like burning gasoline.
Anger moves like an injured dog.
Anger has texture like a scroll of old sandpaper.
Anger looks like an erupting volcano.
Anger is hot like lava, and twice a deadly.
Anger is cold like someone ignoring you.

These are just really fantastic! Love the scroll of old sandpaper and the strawberry lip gloss especially!

I will tell them you said so. :) I think so too... I am just really impressed that Cyan is getting all of it just like Alex is. They are so far apart that I keep thinking she will just kinda go along... but she is really understanding it. It is just really neat to see them blossoming with their writing so. :)
