Science gone wild!

Our experiments moved with us. I actually took them over first in the van the night before we moved in offically. I put them in a similar space so we could keep the integrity of the experiments as much as I possibly could. And just see what happened!

Our tomato plant experiment we started April 24th:

Grew into this by June 1st:

And now into this:

The bottom one isn't producing as many tomatoes, but I think that has more to do with toddlers ripping the top branches off in May than anything to do with not being upsidedown. LOL! I am surpized to say though, that the Topsy Turvy has held it's own this growing season! Pretty darn amazing!

These are tomatoes hanging upside down my Topsy Turvy plant holder:

Isn't it amazing what three months can do? Soon these babies will have red fruit on them, ready to eat!

And our resident sweet potato has grown from this:

To this:
It is quite the pretty plant, actually. It has really beautiful leaves. I keep wondering if I keep it hydroponic, will it still start producing potatoes in a couple months? So I think we will keep it for now. :)

Wow!!! What great experiements. Looks like they were pretty successful. I've never seen a sweet potato grow quite like that! Neat.

I've seen the tomatoe's upside down on TV, but it's nice to see it actually works in the real world.

Love that sweet potato vine!!! I wish I would have grown my tomatoes that way....the coons keep stealing ours off the vine.

Your upside down tomatoes did great! Ours are very small and spindly. The tomatoes in the garden, however, are taking over. Great experiments.

I'm a little late on this one....Did you ever plant the sweet potato?

I think each one of the stems is it's own plant(slip)Where the stem comes out of the potato, you would pinch off and place in water to root, once roots have formed you plant it in the soil....

If that helps any. They really are pretty plants. We have 2 large beds of them, I planted like 50 slips. I am anxious to see if the sweet potatoes are actually growing under there!

So I may have 5 plants on that one? How cool! No I haven't planted it yet. I have purple potatoes in my garden right now that seem to be doing great... but I am also redoing my entire garden in the winter. So I will wait until then to plant them and have a whole bed of sweet potatoes and purple potatoes. :) Thanks for the advice Sadie!
